about

What comes to life before you turn out the light . . .

lyrics

Dead gods do not die. By their nature they rest
in your unconscious. “The unconscious is God,” Jung said.
I think it is all dead gods. Pick one out and breathe on it.
What happens? It comes to life.
Suddenly Zoroaster flies before you stretching out wings from his rock
and hovers in his ancient power with great command and demand.
That mysterious wind from his powerful flapping feathers

turns into Quetzalcoatl and the fires of night ignite.
There is his ancient pyramid presence, the serpent coiled in your heart.
The steps that go up to the sacrifice of dawn and suddenly
the birth of Aphrodite out of the shell out of the water
the ocean lapping at your feet. Oh lover of love caress me,
Avalokitishvara reach out your 1000 arms of compassion
from your put together self. Bring me into the Buddha of your heart

as Jesus walks down the road and tells me how I treat someone suffering
is how I treat him. But the deadest god of all is god’s god,
the father of all. He is broken into thousands of pieces back into the mother of Earth
here in this little nick of the universe. He is dissolved into her as he was in
his ancient history. As the hands of compassion ring out and around:
gods on gods on gods and a sea of goddesses as
the sun Pautiwa looks down in four colors and the twins accompany

Spider Woman to her adorned festivities. Right at home with
my twins and her presence, that old Wind Woman who lives on
the crest of this mountain where I live – quiet now
in the mind, I say goodnight to, layered mind
the imagination of all created things, the muses of the instant
from non-burial grounds deep down under
the Orpheus put together and wandering singing, orphic orchestra,

what a strange chorus to hear as I turn out the light.
